About Vision 2010

About Vision 2010 - Overview

Since its inception, Texas Children's Hospital has been committed to building a community of healthy children through the finest pediatric patient care, education, and research. Through foresight and innovative planning, Texas Children's has made major strides towards redefining the future of pediatric medicine with Vision 2010, the largest expansion ever by an independent children's hospital within a four-year time span. With key milestones completed in 2010, the $1.5-billion initiative has already begun to meet the needs of tomorrow's kids by accelerating advances in cutting-edge research and providing greater access to high-quality care.

Major expansion

Vision 2010 included four major initiatives, each an expansion of Texas Children's core capabilities in research and state-of-the-art care. The first-of-its kind Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, which opened in December 2010, utilizes a multidisciplinary research approach to more quickly find new treatments for brain disorders like autism and Rett syndrome. The expansion of the world-renowned Feigin Center has started its work to accelerate the pace of research from bench to bedside. Offering key outpatient services to patients since late 2010, Texas Children's Hospital West Campus will meet the growing health care needs of the West Houston community with one of the nation's largest suburban hospitals. And with the opening of its outpatient services in November 2011, the new Pavilion for Women builds upon the hospital's expertise in fetal and newborn care, and wil offer a full continuum of care for women, mothers and babies with the opening of its inpatient services in spring 2012.

Progress update

Under the forward-looking leadership of Texas Children's Hospital President and CEO Mark A. Wallace, the Vision 2010 expansion plan saw three of its four key initiatives successfully completed in 2010 as planned. The fourth initiative, the Pavilion for Women, opened its outpatient services in November 2011, with inpatient services to open in spring 2012.
