Maternity Center
Maternity Center - Overview
Expanding upon its premier reputation in fetal and neonatal medicine, Texas Children's Hospital will for the first time offer obstetrical care. The addition of the Maternity Center will enable Texas Children's to provide a full continuum of family-centered care to mothers and their babies, beginning before conception and continuing after birth. With high-risk births on the rise nationally, the Maternity Center will respond to the escalating need for obstetrical research and treatment, and will assure that mothers and their babies have access to the most advanced technologies and treatments available.
Comprehensive care
The concept of a multidisciplinary center focused on the evaluation and treatment of both mother and baby has been long envisioned, but only in the last few years have diagnostic and therapeutic advances transformed this concept from vision to real possibility. The new Maternity Center will be staffed by an outstanding team of physicians assembled from Texas Children's Hospital and its teaching partner, Baylor College of Medicine, as well as by private practice physicians including those from Women's Specialists of Houston. The new center will be headed by Dr. Dale Brown, chief of obstetrics and gynecology. At the Texas Children's Fetal Center, expectant mothers will have access to a full spectrum of fetal therapies available in only a handful of centers worldwide. And after delivery, infants born prematurely or with complications will receive specialized care from multidisciplinary teams at the world-renowned Texas Children's Newborn Center.
A bridge of hope
A sweeping circular sky bridge will connect the Maternity Center to Texas Children's Hospital, allowing rapid access via a two-tiered walkway across Fannin Street back to the main campus for additional specialized care. The bold, iconic design of the bridge will stand as a symbol of Texas Children's Hospital's continuum of care from preconception to infancy, while ensuring that mothers and their babies receive the highest quality of care in one centralized location.
