West Campus - Overview

Recognizing the increasing need for quality pediatric medical care, and responding to the demands of a shifting population base, Texas Children's Hospital is expanding its care to the community and constructing one of the nation's largest suburban pediatric hospitals. Located in West Houston — among one of the fastest growing pediatric populations in the country — the new West Campus will offer quality and convenience to area parents and children.

The new campus

The new West Campus, at I-10 and Barker Cypress, will serve as an exemplar of the rising standards for medicine and pediatric care in the twenty-first century. When completed, the campus will offer
a park-like natural setting with comprehensive, state-of-the-art facilities — including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and advanced imaging — where more children will have access to the highest quality care available anywhere.

A phased introduction

The project will expand in phases over the next several years.
Phase I, to open in fall 2010, will include an outpatient facility offering a wide range of pediatric subspecialty outpatient services, including physical medicine and rehabilitation. Phase II, scheduled to open in winter 2010, will include an inpatient facility with comprehensive pediatric services, including capacity for 48 acute-care beds, an emergency center, surgical suites, advanced diagnostic imaging, and a neurophysiology sleep laboratory.

Preliminary plans for Phase III call for an expansion of inpatient capacity with an additional 48 beds and an expansion of physician specialty service line offerings. Physician and staff recruitment will also continue in this phase, as will additional build-out of the facility.
